Club Championship (2) Kinnabus
Top rod at the Club Championship meeting at Kinnabus on Saturday 9th August was Donnie McNicol.

The day provided good weather and looked ideal for fishing with overcast skies and just enough wind but some struggled to get the fish to take their flies with many saying they had plenty following but just not taking the fly.

Hugh Campbell Memorial Trophy
Callum MacAffer took the honors again this year to hold on to the trophy he won last year in the Hugh Campbell Memorial. Callum was presented with the trophy and a bottle of Smirnoff from our sponsors Diageo.

Colin looks on wondering what could have been had he not broken his rod! however he would also have had competition from Donnie Holyoake 2nd place, Willie Leask 3rd place, and David Morris who was 4th.
Colin Robertson fished well to bag the heaviest fish. Conditions looked good, overcast with a light wind, but the better positions brought the more fish, the lower loch producing the most on the day. Colin's heaviest fish winner though came from the east shore of the main loch.

A total of 18 anglers turned out for the Competition, including junior member Adam Morrison from Port Ellen.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP, GLENASTLE LOCHS, 3/5/08
A healthy turnout of over 20 anglers arrived for the first competition of the 2008 season and promptly filled the new car park. A strong breeze of about 20-25mph was blowing down the glen and over the lochs and good positions were going to be taken by the more competative early arrivals leaving the rest to make the best of what was left available.

The fishing was slow for the first 2 hours or so with few trout being netted although Ted Burkinshaw managed to hook a fair sized fish which was the highlight of this spell. The wind did however ease of a good bit for the second half of the evening and more fish were beginning to show, with Dod and Duncan adding to the number of bigger fish being caught of which Dod Dunbar's earning him the plaudits for the biggest fish of the day. The top rod though with a better total weight from 7 trout was Colin Tocher, following on from his success on the Ardtalla outing. Ther was not a lot in it and nearly everyone at least got a fish on the night, the conditions not really creating too much of a gap between the anglers.

Also the announcement that the Commonwealth Championships are to be held on Islay in 2009, great news for the club and the Island.
As usual, boats were discussed and hopefully this season we will have a boat on the School Loch, something that didn't materialise last year but we are determined to push through this year.
Watch out for work days being displayed in Ian's window so that we can be prepared for the very first day of the season without any hitches. They will be needed to launch the boats and other minor tasks.
A full list of competition dates will be displayed on this page as soon as they are announced.
